Survivor Math
I like puzzles, trying to figure out the numbers behind things. It keeps my mind occupied. I don't particularly like math, but I'm pretty good at it and I like figuring things out.
So, I think up things to keep myself entertained. For example, I got thinking about the numerics o Survivor. Each season starts out with an equal amount of men and women, but how does it even up? What's the ratio to make the jury? What's the ratio to win?
Let's look at the jury first. In 9 seasons, there have been 81 jury members, 42 of whom have been women, 39 who were men. That averages out to 52% women and 48% men when you do some rounding, not too bad, but a slight edge.
Next, the final four. Of the 36 to make it this far, 19 have been women, while 17 were men. Which averages out to 53% women, 47% men. Again, only a slight difference, but still an edge towards the women.
When it gets down to the 18 final two contestants, the edge is still noticible. 10 women, 8 men have made it that far. And the smaller the numbers get, the bigger the percentage, making it round out to 56% women, 44% men.
And lastly, of the nine winners, again there's a slight edge to the women. 5 women and 4 men have won the game of Survivor. So why is that? Why do women have a slight advantage under every element?
I don't know. I just figured out the math, not the reasoning, though things like Vanautu's strong women alliance which added up to a 2-5 jury have to be figured in, though a man won that season.
I just though I'd share my findings, though I doubt any of you really care, since the weirdest things amuse me.
